The Windy City Thunderbolts have traded catcher (and 1B / RF according to his 2019) Joe Lytle to the Florence Y’alls for a player to be named later.
The left-handed hitting 25-year-old player has played most of the 2019 season for the Quebec City Capitales in 2019, recording a hitting line (.288/.374/.413) that should be welcomed by his new club.
He is a good defensive catcher, retiring 25% of would-be stealers in his pro career, although the sample is very small. That’s right in line with what Jackson Pritchard and Ryan Rinsky, the two main catchers for Florence last season, accomplished. They were no threat at the plate, however, so that’ll be one more weapon for manager Brian White.
They currently have Pritchard, Mike Gullino and Austin Mettica competing for one of the remaining spot behind the plate. Gulino is an intriguing option, since he has a great eye at the plate and can put the ball in play. He also comes with versatility in the outfield and at first base, as Lytle do, so White has got himself many moving pieces going into the 2021 season.
As for the Thunderbolts, they have the dangerous and productive Rob Calabrese going as their first catcher, so Lytle became expandable. I’ll also be keeping an eye on John Sechen, a 24-year-old out of the University of Illinois with only 2 AB in indy ball, but who has shown an incredible eye at the plate in college. Look at this:

Le frappeur gaucher de 25 ans a disputé la majeure partie de la saison 2019 pour les Capitales de Québec en 2019, enregistrant une ligne offensive (.288 /.374 /.413) qui devrait être saluée par son nouveau club.
Il est un bon receveur défensif, retirant 25% des voleurs potentiels dans sa carrière professionnelle, bien que l’échantillon soit très petit. Cela correspond à ce que Jackson Pritchard et Ryan Rinsky, les deux principaux attrapeurs de Florence la saison dernière, ont accompli. Cependant, ils n’étaient pas une menace au marbre, ce sera donc une arme de plus pour le manager Brian White.
